New 12th hole plans
Work to build the new 190 yard par 3 twelfth hole will commence on 1st September and is planned to take 6 weeks to complete.  The work is planned for this time as it will enable the green-keepers to lay turf in early October giving it a chance to root in before the onset of winter.

Description of design and works

New 12th master plan

The purpose of this new hole is twofold:

  1. Takes the golfer back towards the clubhouse and to the new 13th hole.
  2. Replicates much of the good features of the existing 15th hole (which will be surrendered to the hill in 2009).  Many members' have expressed regret at losing this hole - it's just playing 12, 13 and 14 to get to it that's the problem.

The project includes:

  • Build a new green for the new 12th hole.
  • Build two new tees for new 12th.
  • Build two new tees for 7th hole.

This work will disrupt play to the current 17th, 18th and 7th holes.  After the construction work is completed play will resume from the existing 17th and 7th tees through till the Spring of 2009.

Prior to the construction starting the new 6th green will be opened for play.  During construction temporary tees will be used for the 7th and 17th holes, and a temporary green for the 18th.  Play on the new 6 holes will commence before construction of the new 12th begins, but these new holes (new 13th to 18th) will not be used for competitions until the Spring of 2009.

Pictures and plans to appear here soon.  They are currently on display on the clubhouse notice-boards.  There is also a white stake in the ground just off the front of the current 7th tees indicating the centre of the new green (which will be 20 yards deep and 40 yards wide).
