News about the new 'Templar' 9 hole short-course being built at Swanston

Latest news
12th June 2008: 'Templar' short-course opening in July 2008.

Please send suggestions for names of new holes on both courses to colin@swanston.co.uk

Design concept
The reason for building a new 9 hole short-course is to give the novice golfer, whether old or young, male or female, a chance to develop their golfing skills before stepping up to the challenge of a full-size 18 hole layout.

The course will be prepared to a standard where it can be used for competitions and medals.  All fairways will start immediately in front of each tee.  There will be different heights of cut grass to give the fairway definition but no rough between the holes.  The course will have many features to challenge the golfer, but will also be setup to encourage new players by not being too punishing.

Junior members (10 to 17 years old) at Swanston get full access to this course as part of their annual membership.  Upon reaching a handicap of say 28 they will be permitted to play the full course unaccompanied.

Other members have the choice of either paying for the use of the course as part of their annual membership or simply paying each time they wish to play.

9 Hole Layout 6 Hole Layout
1 132 yds 1/2 295 yds
2 131 3 111
3 111 4/5 218
4 81 6 151
5 105 7/8 224
6 151 9 110
7 115
8 118
9 110

The course can be setup to be played as either a 9 hole layout or, by joining 3 pairs of holes, a 6 hole layout.  As you can see from the table above the 6 hole layout introduces longer holes for a different golfing challenge.  For safety reasons the 6 hole layout would only be played on specific days.
