CAPTAIN v VICE CAPTAIN MATCH – CAPTAIN’S REPORT

Firstly can I say how delighted I was with yesterday’s turnout for the Opening Day Captain v Vice Captain match.
My game with Alan, Darren and Rab was most enjoyable and with recently injured Stewart Laird watching on the banter was excellent!
I wish Stewart a speedy recovery and he can then return to the excellent voluntary work he was carrying out on the course for us.
It was great to see young 10 year old Kiron Gribble playing which further confirms Swanston’s commitment to junior golf.
Thank you to the Brasserie staff for the excellent buffet.
Secondly tomorrow sees the beginning of the construction of our new academy and driving range. The weather has played a significant part in the delays but that said it has given us the time to gain full warrant approval of the project.
Thanks to Edinburgh Council for their expedience on this matter.
Lastly it was obvious yesterday that the course was not in the condition we would expect it to be at this time of year.
I do not have to explain why given the recent horrendous weather conditions we have experienced, but needless to say the green staff will be working tirelessly to remedy this prior to the beginning of May.
More sand spreading and coring will be required but a bit of warm growing weather will be very much appreciated.
Please accept the putts will not be running as true as normal for a few weeks but it is the same for everyone!
Bye the way The Captains Team were victorious and retained the Luke’s Cup
The score was The Captains Team 592, the Vice Captains Team 613
We also raised the sum of £350 towards Luke’s fund to help with his treatment in Mexico.
The money was given to his Grandad Rab Ure who was very grateful and thanked the Club for all their much appreciated efforts today and in the past.

Yours In Sport
