I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the members and their guests for making last Friday’s Club Prizegiving such a memorable occasion.

The percentage of trophies passed out on the evening was tremendous, therefore a special thanks to Club Manager Mike, Bob Mackay, Stephen Speirs, Spike and Duncan Thompson for all their efforts in making the Presentation of Prizes such a memorable evening. A special thanks to Bob for managing to justify this year’s Srixon ball order!

With regards the Juniors it is no surprise that Malachy and Greig scooped most of the honours. Both of them were outstanding last season and I confidently expect the same again this year. Malachy and Greig will now be in contention as first choices for this years Gents Summer League campaign.

The Ladies have a new Captain in Fiona Shepherd and we hope to see them increasing in numbers this year and also mixing with any ladies who sign up to take part in Love Golf from April with a view to the Love.Golf ladies hopefully becoming members of the Club

The Seniors are as usual playing a very important part in the Swanston revival and as a Board we welcome and require their input. Their new Captain is Bob Steele. Bob has been a long time member of Swanston and we will invite him to the March Board Meeting in an effort to tap into his knowledge of Senior golf at the club.

The Gents section requires a new committee to be formed in an effort to move forward.

We will require an enthusiastic approach from the gents involved and  as I looked around the room at the presentation night I noted a number of individuals who have so much to give but they just don’t know it yet!

We are now not far away from the opening day of the season and the Captains v. Vice Captains Match.

I have decided to donate a trophy for this event which will be presented on the day.

The day and the trophy will be dedicated to Rab Ure’s Grandson Luke who as many of you will know is currently battling a very rare brain tumour.

The Club and the Brasserie will match all money raised by players on the day in an effort to help towards Luke’s treatment and recovery.

Our thoughts are with all of Rab’s family especially Luke’s mum and dad Jennifer and Mark and his wee brothers Lewis and Lochlin at this difficult time.

The trophy will be called ‘Luke’s Cup’ and when Luke has fully recovered we look forward to him presenting the trophy in the near future.

The Club Manager will be contacting you all again soon to get your names down to play in the match.

We look forward to the season and good luck to you all.
