The Captain was very sad to hear of the passing of Jimmy’s wife – she lived in the house by the first tee and Graeme has asked for the following to be put out to the Members.

I was extremely upset and very sad to hear of the recent death of Ellen McLagan.
Ellen was one of the mainstays of the Club, assisting her mum, Mrs More in all aspects of making sure the members of Swanston were catered for.
Ellen’s father, Herbert More, built the course and her mother was Club Mistress for 50 years.
Ellen was of course best known at Swanston for being the wife of my great friend and golfing partner Jimmy McLagan.
They were a wonderful partnership and it was always fun to listen into their discussions when Jimmy and I came back after a pint or two in us after a game away from home.
I know how difficult Ellen’s passing will be for Jimmy and I am very sad to be thousands of miles away on holiday at this time.
