Below is a copy of a Newsletter from Graeme Millar, the Club Captain, I have just sent to all members with E mail addresses
To All Swanston Members
As you are all aware the Captain V Vice Captain Match for the Luke Trophy will take place on the 8th of April this year.
This particular tournament has been very successful over the years and has raised money for wonderful causes along the way.
This year will be of significant importance to Swanston Golf Clubs future in that we have decided to remove Footgolf from the land that we lease from Swanston Farm and on that date the Footgolf will disappear completely.
The revenue from FootGolf will of course be missed (£90,000) over 2 years but what is decision making without an element of risk!
What we will replace that revenue with will be a new Academy Golf membership. Whilst the construction costs are privately financed with no risk to the golf club I have confirmed that any money raised from Academy Membership will go to the Golf Club.
We hope to sell 200 full memberships this year running from April 1 to March 31 2019
The costs will be as follows Full £200
Junior (12-18) £100 Junior under 12 free
Academy Membership includes access to the 9 hole Templar Course 365 days a year, use of the short game area and putting greens, discounted golf balls on our new range (6 covered bays and a minimum of 16 grass bays)
Please note the plans are available in the pro shop all of which have been approved by Edinburgh City Council with likely start date of construction, the beginning of February.
In my opinion the most significant positive of all will be the introduction of my co-investor to the academy.
His reputation throughout the United Kingdom and Western Europe is massive and he will be at your beck and call for club fitting, with his and our PGA instructors available at any time
Please note that for your annual fees for Swanston Membership all the above is available and included. This has to be the best deal in Edinburgh without question
Scottish Golf Ltd at their recent conference wanted clubs to engage in all of the above.
Well you are going to have it all-on your doorstep.
This was the dream of Colin McClung who was ahead of his time.
My only legacy to Swanston is that I am on the verge of completing the circle.
Regards
Graeme Millar
