KENNY FERGUS

I was saddened to hear from the Captain that Kenny passed away earlier this morning

The Captain penned this tribute to Kenny

It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of long time Swanston member Kenny Fergus.
Kenny and I joined Swanston together in 1968 and remained friends ever since.
His recent illness meant his memory was failing him but it didn’t stop him coming up to watch his boys, Ross and Scott playing in many a championship match and I know how delighted he was when both of the boys joined their Dad on the Club Championship board.
Kenny and I grew up at Swanston and whilst I have no idea how many times we played golf together it must have been in four figures.
He was a feisty competitor and when we played against each other in a match play situation you knew that it would go down to the wire.
Kenny won the Club Championship in 1975 beating Jim McLagan in the final over 36 holes and whilst it was a bit of a surprise at the time to some, it wasn’t to me!
His partnership with Grant Skinner in the Terry Holmes trophy was legendary and further confirmed to every one that played against him that his match play skills were as good as anyone’s.
He will always be remembered for his cheeky grin and his great sense of humour especially when picking the ball out of the hole after an “up and down” from some ridiculous place!!
I will remember him as a good friend who loved life and his boys.

My deepest condolences on behalf of Swanston Golf Club to Ross and Scott

Rest in peace my friend.
